Band Of The day: The Grouch & Eligh
The Grouch & Eligh - Run ft. Pigeon John
We took em to the shoreline and caught em in the break
Music is my religion, it's never been a mistake
Even if you don't make it, you can listen in the same
The ears of the earth are the ones that I chase
Innovative and never scared looking for your face
Dangling a carrot at the end of a string running
Not gunning for money even though money is needed
I'm gunning for cunning listeners to get the seed when I plant it"
Okay so I guess these are two separate solo artists, but it seems they tour and record with each other more often than not. Corey Scoffern(The Grouch) and Eligh Nachowitz have been MC's since the early 90's, and are both part of the popular group Living Legends, which is how I discovered them years ago. G&E are a far cry from the simplified generic hip hop pushed by the big labels. You won't hear them objectifying women, or bragging about their money stacked to the roof. In fact, The Grouch often writes about his life as a family man. Eligh almost lost his life to heroin addiction, and writes lyrics about his struggle for sobriety and the happiness it's brought him. They bring a beautiful positive message into a genre that as of late, has become incredibly narcissistic. I enjoy playing their records around my nieces and nephews hoping they'll be influenced by artists such as G&E, as opposed to the superficial garbage pushed by Hollywood and modern pop culture. They have been around for awhile so they have a large collection of recordings to explore. Enjoy!
All These Lights
All In
I came up with somethin
Its on again!
I found myself by the river and jumped in!
Its all or nothing, gotta be all in"
People Of The Sun feat. Slightly Stoopid
Everybody got a job to do and they're gettin' the job done
Whether you doin' it for yourself, your families or for everyone
Forward ever, backward never that's the way we need to run
Well now you know that it is better to give than it is receive
That is the way we all should live
And that's how we should believe
All them fools and all them riches
And the world they would deceive
And the minds that realize the world we never could achieve"
