Steemit Record Pool | Song of The Day : Mobb Deep - Survival of The Fittest

Song : Survival of the Fittest
Artist : Mobb Deep
Released : 1995
Label: Loud
Genre : Hip Hop

"Survival of the Fittest" is a song from Mobb Deep's second massive hit of the classic album "The Infamous" released in 1995.

For me this song represents the classic New York City Hip Hop sound, the song focuses on lyrics over some dark piano loop that is sampled throughout the beat and it just sticks there, I remember playing this song over and over growing up with my homies it was like our anthem song... haha

Survival of the Fittest” like so many other classic 90’s east coast hip hop songs, focuses more on lyrics than the beat, but that said 90's Hip Hop had the catchiest beats, they were simply, super catchy and you can hear them on repeat and never get tired of.

In the song Prodigy (R.I.P passed away in June 20, 2017) and Havoc tackles the urban life and daily struggle, unlike some rap songs that glorifies the gangsters lifestyle, this one is different as it's more about watching out your back and looking out for yourself in a super catchy way. For me this is a classic song and Album that is a classic for any 90's Hip Hop head.

"Survival of The Fittest was sampled from Al Cohn's and The Barry Harris Trio Skylark Jazz record which was recorded in New York City in 1976 also it contains vocal samples of their own song Shook Ones Part II released back in 1994, this song made a massive impact in the Hip Hop history as it was sampled by various artists in more then a 140 Hip Hop songs that came after, simply a definition of a classic song and timeless music.
