Grapthar's Song of the Day: Tones on Tail 'Lions'

Tones on Tail - Lions

Tones on Tail was initially formed

as a side project of Bauhaus member Daniel Ash and roadie Glen Campling, but after the breakup of Bauhaus and the addition of drummer Kevin Haskins, they become a full time, 3-piece band. They incorporated a lot of the "darkness" and sort of doomy aesthetic Bauhaus was known for, but with more of a dance-pop format. The band has had a resurgence in popularity in recent years due to their song "Go!" being featured in various movies and commercials, including Party Monster and a Ford Mercury Mariner commercial.

Listen to Lions by Tones on Tail here.

This track was one of 2 singles

from their only studio album, Pop, released in 1984. Its hard for me to pick a favorite song of theirs, but this is definitely up there. I love the sparse, sort of empty feeling of the single synth line and the vocals; At the most "complex" point, there is still just those 2 parts and an additional percussive synth/electric drum kit, yet the song never feels boring. I love the timbre of the synths from this era, things have become so produced and professional sounding in modern electronic music, so it's nice to hear something that stands out from the crowd.

I hope you enjoy the song! Thanks for checking out my blog, and Steem On!
