My kind of music

Inspired by @conradt's post When music genres collide and @verhp11's post Streetmusic....some get me the chills I just had to share some of my favorite songs to you.

When I grew up and other teenagers were listening Eppu Normaali, Madonna, Bon Jovi and Metallica, my heart was beating at the same pace with Muddy Waters.

I don't hate the music that my friends listened. I can't think of many songs that I could hate because I like almost any kind of music. After all I did know by heart the lyrics to Metallicas song One and Crazy by Aerosmith. But then there were those songs that I loved more than others. Oh how many times I listened those. Billie Holiday - Summertime, Glenn Miller - Moonlight Serenade sung by Ella Fitzgerald, Canned Heat - On The Road Again, Del Shannon - Runaway and The Supremes - Reflections. Just to mention a few.

But let's come back to this decade. Or this century anyway. There's a special place in my heart for musicians who mix & match different kind of styles and genres, and experiment with new instruments and ways to play music. There's also a large place in my heart for movies and TV-series and often that's where I discover new songs and artists.

Karma Fields & Morten - Stickup ft. Juliette Lewis

This song should be banned from me. Every time I put my headphones on and walk somewhere outside I get this feeling. That urge. You know? Uncontrollable desire to rob a bank. So maybe it's a good thing that nowadays it's very hard to get into a bank. Opening hours are something like every Tuesday from 1 pm to 2 pm when the wind is blowing from north and three German Shepherds bark at the same time. Not that I wanted to go there, but it's slightly inconvenient for those that do.

Bear McCreary - Ninety Niners

The Battle of San Francisco and of course the Theme from Defiance. Sorry neighbors. I just had to crank up the volume.

Steriogram - Walkie Talkie Man

I love this video. Guess which movie I spotted this from. I was channel surfing and this song was in a chase scene. I didn't care for the movie so much so I didn't watch it. Therefore I don't know the name of the movie. So guess anything you like. You are probably right. :)

Pascal Ponceau - Versailles

I'm almost speechless.

Fever Ray - Seven

Check out also Keep The Streets Empty For Me (with Steve Cutts illustrations). Illustrator that has an incredibly accurate view of the world and humankind. In my opinion.

Next let me hit you with something totally weird.

Cleaning Women - Ricewestern

They are from Finland and they sing gibberish. To me it doesn't even sound like Finnish. If I didn't know, I would guess this language to be Polish or Czech. :) Some of their instruments are a bit modified and their appearance is, well, cleaning womanish. If I would make a music video for them, I'd take few futuristic scenes from Fritz Langs Metropolis (1927) and mix it with clips from Sergei Eisensteins Battleship Potemkin (1925).

Portugal. The Man - Feel It Still is a good mood bringer, Fall Out Boy - Uma Thurman makes me wanna jump and Fitz And The Tantrums - The Walker makes me wanna jump & dance. If you need a homebrew beer recipe Side Brok has a song for you: Heimeøl. After drinking all that homebrew beer Richard Cheese may sink in better if you're not so into swing music.

Richard Cheese - People = Shit (Slipknot Cover)

And almost finally a special mention to Ska-P because everything is better with a little punk in it, Infected Mushroom, Clutch, Basement Jaxx, Franz Ferdinand and Afro Celt Sound System. You are all golden!

Finally. This song is the song that I would gladly listen as the last song before I die.

Liquid Tension Experiment - State of grace
