About a month ago, end of October I needed a break. I was feeling heavenly beaten up by the deepest techno beats I ever heard and after my arrival back in my hometown at the airport, I was crawling with my last reserve on energy. After 5 days and nights, I was so exhausted, the craziest electronic Dance Festival in Amsterdam was over but I still could not stop the music, yet so I jumped in the shower and subway and got going again.

My friend Nina, George Clinton & The Parliaments Agent, obviously a music lover as crazy as I am, told me she got some tickets sorted out for the one and only Saul Williams Live at Brut in the centre of Vienna.
I was back in line, waiting patiently in the cold rain and it was well worth it.
I was so so excited! Artists like him don't just stop by in Bali for this kind of performance. I was lucky to be in Europe at the right time and place to make notes. I shot a few videos but still don't know how to add them here :(

Saul Williams:
"Initially, I would say that I was as interested as anyone else, yet as a witness of the Occupy movement, the Arab Spring, the Y’en A Marre movement in Senegal, and the social eruptions triggered by whistle blowers like Chelsea Manning, I began to believe that we have an opportunity to re-wire society and do away with some of the old school paternalistic ideologies that have defined much of our history. The fact that I started piecing these ideas together, specifically while living abroad and wandering the streets of places like Dakar, Senegal, watching kids devour the new tech while tightening the skin on homemade drums, it became fascinating to think of the fusion of the talking drum and handheld computer…."

© Morgan Sorne - I am very pleased to announce that I will be illustrating the graphic novel Martyr Loser King with Saul Williams )
The book is being published by 01firstsecond books and due out in 2019. Saul is making a foray into comics, with a graphic novel in collaboration with the artist Sorne.
It will be part of a larger narrative encompassing works in several disciplines, including an album that was released earlier this year.
