Purplette (New Song // Original)

Here is my new song called Purplette. I will play the song for you, then briefly walk through the progression.

The chords I've used are G minor, F major and G major. In the solo section I alternate between the G and D notes in the bass. One thing to keep in mind is you don't have to stay within the scale of the chord you are using. It turns out to be fine to swap in E blues scale over the G major chord, because they share the following notes: G, A, B, D, and E.

G scale: G, A, B, C, D, E, F#, G
E scale: E, G, A, Bb, B, D, E
Common: G, A, B, D, E

It is like a common denominator for music. You know these notes will fit because they are a subset of two scales. There are other notes that don't fit, but still are fun to add in. Playing the C# and even switching the the G blues scale during the G minor chord adds a cool soulful feel.

I know the video says take one, but it took several hours and 20-30 tries to get this just right.

Update:

I want to try additional takes while the edits for this post are still open. I will post them below this message.
