OST of the Day #1: MapleSEA - CBD

Hi Steemit!

Welcome to the first post of my new series, OST of the Day!

OSTs make up the majority of the music I listen to, and they're so underrated I just had to share them! So in these posts, I'll share a song and my thoughts about it. Feel free to listen while reading 😊

I thought it'd be apt if I started this series with the first game's OST I ever listened to (without playing the actual game) - MapleStory!

Maple was a big part of my young adolescence and I spent countless hours training, questing, hanging with friends, exploring with my bro, etc. I'll write more about the actual game in another post but here's the song I wanted to share:

Did I hit you right in the feels of nostalgia?

I remember this was the first song my brother let me listen to after he found out how to download them. It may seem silly now, but back then downloading songs wasnt a big thing yet, and people listened to music either on the radio or on CDs. (It's also illegal so.. 😕)

If you've played Maple before, you may be familiar with this map. Its actually in CBD (field), Singapore! It was the first time I saw Singapore recreated in-game and I remember I was so excited because it was really accurate! Flying in a plane and landing in Changi Airport (although it is far from the original) was so cool!

From the Merlion to the buildings in the skyline, the aninated MRT train, the road signs (even ERP!), not forgetting our iconic "durian" in CBD town, everything in CBD seemed pretty spot on (even the dustbins!). Although someone noted that the real MRTs in CBD are underground, I think thats beside the point. Nexon did a really good job!

The song itself is really peaceful and calming, which matches with the background well but I would say is quite unlike the atmosphere of CBD in real life where it's very hectic and happening all the time; people rushing to work during weekdays and shopping on weekends.

The instruments used all produce very gentle sounds, even with the hihat beat. I'm not familiar with the electronic sounds but I think it's an electric piano.? The woodwind is great, and the flute doesnt dominate over the other instruments. There're a lot of supporting instruments as well, like the wind chimes. Overall it makes for a very tranquil atmosphere, and definitely one of my favourite songs.

Thank for reading!
