In my previous post I came up with the idea to post a musical alphabet. Each letter represented a musician or band with a specific song. This time I have choosen songs with staerting with the letter of the alphabet. I thought it would be fun and kind a currious where I came up with :)
If you like the idea, please feel free to do so yourself... I wonder if the results are mixed or a particular music style :)
Well here I go
A Wither shade of pale
I remember this song was part of a Dutch commercial, I thought a insurance company. I recall my dad talking bad about that because he thought you can't mis-use such a great song for a commercial. And I must say he is right, it's a timeless song which is strong by simplicity.
Back by dope demand
King Bee was a Dutch hip-hop / rap band. In my youth this song was a big hit and when this was played in the club people got crazy.... Al those fancy dancing, everbody was a hip-hopper :)
Can't stand loosing
The Police is one of those bands who (musicaly) only got better when they got older... This video show's the energy they still had in 2008. And Stewart Copeland, he is some amazing (imho undervalued) drummer....
Does your mother know
This one of the first songs of Abba where I truely wondered if I like this song. compared to the other Abba songs this song is a bit different. After having it heard for a few times I was certain, I liked it... It's pop/rock/disco.....Abba :)
Everbody hurts
REM, I always had a kind of love/hate relation ship with this band. For instance this song I love a lot but there are songs too, like shiny happy people, which I really don't like and whicht irritates me when I hear it lol...funny isn't it..
Funky Town
What's to say about this song.... It makes me cheerfull, old skool disco :) With Debby Jenner (a dutch dancer from the 80's) is playing the lead part :)
Guitarmania
Guitarist Tamas Szekeres, A musician I already loved from my youth. I found out, during my interview with Barend Courbois, that Barend played bass on Tamas album's , never knew that... His guitar style fit's a bit into the Malmsteen era.
Hold the line
This is for me one of the best songs of Toto... The timing, guitarplaying it is just awesome... Not to forget the energetic drums....
Is there anybody out there
No comment necessary, Floyd as Floyd has to be :)
Just give me a reason
P!nk is for me the absolute representation of the "powerwoman" 2.0. My wife and youngest son are big fans of her and I must confess that I really like her live performances because she is supported by a great band, blessed with a great voice and het shows are amazing... and besides that, she is a beautiful woman....
Kijk omhoog
This is a Dutch song of Nick & Simon. They are very popular in the netherlands. This song I actually like, but to be honest I couldn't get to a international song title starting with a K :)
Let Love rule
Lenny Kravitz is one of those artists who can be silent for years and suddenly he is back again with a great song or album. I love the older work more than his latest, this is one of my favorites... Layed back, ease....great song..
Minnie the Moocher
From the great all time classic movie "The Blues Brothers".... I have watched this movie so much that (at that time) the video tape was worn out totally...
Nights in white satin
I remember this song as one of the songs being on one of the parts of "Rockballads", a serie of CD's I'd love to listen. Whith all those great songs..
Open your eyes
This is such an energetic song, I still love it... I have played this with my band Sixstrings back then. The bassline is very cool to play. The crowd went nuts, this song brings back same memories as "Killing in the name of" for instance.
Perfect
Ed Sheeran I saw at the PinkPop festival in 2014 I believe. He made a big impression on me. Just with his guitar and a loopstation getting 60.000 people quiet for a whole gig..... Repsect...
Que si que no
Sorry, couldn't find a good song. Although this song was a big hit in holland. Jody Bernal is also dutch.
Rain down
This song is from the dutch band Kane. I did a post on them some months ago. Only this time the song is remixed by DJ tiesto, a fmous Dutch DJ and producer.
Stand by me
This song has to be in this alphabet. I written earlier about the "Playing for change" foundation... this is pure...and I engourage it a lot...
Take me to church
First time I heard this song I remember driving in my car... I didn't knew where the song was going. But hearing the chorus I was blasted by the power of the song.
Under the bridge
One of the first songs I tried to manage on my acoustic guitar... great song.. And I still can play it :P
Valerie
To bad she passed away much to early... She had som massive lyrics....
Who said I would
This album Seriously hits live, I have played for many years. Great songs, great band... great voice...
So what else do you need :)
XIX
As probably a few of you already know I am a big fan of Corey Taylor (the frontman of Slipknot). I could have posted some other good songs, but they didn't start with an X :) but this is quiet a melancholic song.. with a dark clip..
You're the inspiration
A song which goes totally out to my wife....she's my inspiration
Zombie
Still shocked about the early passing of the Cranberries singer Dolores O'Riordan. Way to soon. In the 90's I rebelled a lot supported by the music of the cranberries :) Great singer..
We'll that's it....a whole alphabet filled with (for me) good songs.... I took some considerations and choices, but I think it is a nice list eventually.....
If you liked it, please follow my example, I would love te hear your alphabet choices....
Have a great weekend and keep up that music !!
