Vintage of the Day - Rapture, Blondie

Rapture by Blondie things you didn't know! or maybe you did. Regardless--

Rapture is an epic tune. This original 45 record has the sleeve and you can see front and back and the label. In case you don't know, a 45 is usually one song and a 'B" side featuring another song.

Rapture Facts

  1. Rapture was in the first 90 songs rotation in the first 30 days of MTV, August - 1981.
  2. It was the first video featuring rap on MTV or any mainstream radio or media.
  3. Blondie was a New York punk band and got creative.
  4. Fab Five Freddy and Lee Quinones, early (hip-hop) are in the video and FFF get a shout-out in the song.
  5. Cameo appearance by New York artist/Andy Warhol groupie Jean Michel Basquiat, who's work has toppled Warhol's record for the most expensive American painting ever sold.
  6. "Flash is fast, flash is cool" is in reference to early hip-hop DJ Grandmaster Flash.

I picked this and a few more 1980's 45's up at a sale, some good ones too!

Rapture was like rock, disco, punk and there weren't other words to describe it. It was fresh. I loved this video. This song was unlike anything else being played. Had a good beat, you could dance to it ;)

I was 12 in 1981. Formative music years and I vividly remember when MTV began. Me and my brother would sneak around and try to get some time cable time when we could.
