Right after saying good-bye to winter celebrations, the city is meeting the “Festival of Lights” in mid-February. The project is only three years old but has been recognized as the most popular event of the winter season for good reason. With the slogan “The brightest event of the city!” the festival clears dusk and winter boredom away and brings thousands of citizens and guests of the city back on the streets of Klaipeda’s Old Town, which are transformed by means of unexpected solutions, colours and shapes.

"MERIDIANAS" - the sailing ship is a symbol of Klaipeda. Generally it does look same normally, but lets start from that point :)
LIGHT INSTALLATION “INFINITY”
As early as in school, we learned to write the infinity symbol. Later, infinity came into our vocabulary, we discovered infinity in space, we found infinity in everyday life, even in kindergarten. You will like the “Infinity” of the Festival very much, or maybe, infinitely.
„THEY WERE HERE“
This installation brings the former inhabitants of the historic city back to life. According to the artist, people never really disappear without a trace – they stay as long as their image remains in our memory.
This year the festival was arranged as a part of Lithuania anniversary - 100th years of the restoration of independence. That's why many installation reflected the colors of Lithuanian flag - Yellow/Green/Red
And finally we are coming to the culmination of the show
LIGHT & MUSIC SHOW “THE GATE OF CENTURIES“
Visiting Klaipėda Festival of Lights means visiting Italy, charming, vivid, and unforgettable Italy. The Focus of the Festival – Turgaus Street – presents an impressive, big project of the Italian group of artists Marianolight: “The Gate of Centuries”.
Colourful and elegant lights of the project reflect traditions of Southern Europe and the spirit of the century. This spectacular synthesis of lights and music will amuse visitors of the festival one day longer than other projects of the festival, until the 18th of February. Four evenings running, visitors will see seven different light & music shows, including a special show dedicated to the Centennial of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania. The tunnel of “The Gate of Centuries” is 200 meters long. This magical tunnel is made up of wooden arcs, fourteen of them are Italian heritage. In the past, they used to decorate city festivities, however, were modernized a decade ago. Through the state-of-art technology, the project will reveal secrets of an ancient art and contemporary light architecture, accompanied by specially composed music.
The artists have travelled with their projects around the world and created a scenic design for presentation of the luxury fashion house Dolce & Gabbana’s collection. Marianolight is one of the historical Italian companies, whose traditions are kept alive by the Mariano family itself since the very foundation in 1898. Marianolight was recognised by the Italian Chamber of Commerce for its contribution to the fostering of Italian culture and preservation of traditions.
