Girl Power - MyPictureDay Submission

I had the honor this week to shoot a talented girl who has been taking dance and ballet lessons since she was 2 years old. The motivation and commitment she has to her craft is truly inspiring.

I used a 9 foot white backdrop and reflective white floor. Capturing jumps with arms spread wide and legs stretched out often leads to the subject coming off the white background. I've included a behind the scenes shot at the end to give an idea of what the edits involved plus to show the light setup.

As far as image capture details - I used the Nikon D750 with a 24-70 2.8 Nikon lens. I shot wide at 24mm to make sure everything was captured knowing I would later crop as needed. ISO 200, f8., 160th sec. Shooting at f8.0 I had no worry about the overhead room lights having any effect on the photos. A total of 6 lights were used. 3 Einstein's and 3 Alien Bee 800's. 2 for background, 2 rim lights, 1 beauty dish in front slightly right at 45 degree angle and the last behind me slightly left for fill. The Paul C Buff Einstein's are ideal to freeze movement since they flash at around 1/14,000 sec, refresh quickly and provide consistent color.
