It's the Vine Hawk-moth (Hippotion celerio)
Looks more like a pup than a moth :-)
I think he wants me to scratch his head :-)
It's a friendly little thing too :-)
This moth is found from Southern Europe, through Africa,, Central and Southern Asia, Australia and the Pacific. It has a wing span of span 6 cm. The adult moth is a nectar feeder but the caterpillars are considered pests of crops such as grapes; hence the name Vine Hawk-moth. Another name for it is the Silver-striped Hawk-moth. Like other moths in the Sphingidae family it has narow wings and is a fast flier.
