Poker Today is a new content series that will highlight news, events, and personalities within the Steem Poker community.
The main goals of Poker Today is to: (1) streamline current Steem Poker operations, (2) increase awareness of Steem Poker to the entire Steemit platform and other platforms, and (3) raise support for ongoing community activities. Operated by @chiefmappster and @nicnas , the post payouts of Poker Today will go to achieving these three goals.

The Steem Poker League, @spl , is the premiere brand in the Steem Poker community. Created by @tuck-fheman and @bigpchef , the Steem Poker League has paid over 1600 SBD to Steem poker players since its creation.
They have been testing and hosting daily games and weekly tournaments on various sites to work out and find the best solution for the Steem Poker community. No one told them to do this; they did this and created the @spl out of their love for poker and Steem.
The culmination of their efforts is Steem's very own poker platform, http://lucksacks.net/ . It is an absolutely incredible platform for Steemians to play poker, view tournament results, buy Steem Poker swag, and network with fellow Steemians within the Steem poker community.

With the implementation of the newest functionality and features coming in the near future, the @spl is literally changing the poker landscape and establishing itself as a premiere poker platform 3.0 of the future.
The increase in poker players into Steemit is beneficial to all. The Steemians are happy because they get to play a game they love and have a chance to win SBD. The Steemit platform benefits because poker Steemians spend more time daily on the platform as a result of the @spl and poker players unaware of Steemit and joining Steemit just to become a part of the Steem poker community.

Lastly, this week is an epic week for poker events in the Steem Poker community.
The Steem Pro League tournament on Tuesday, July 11 at 4PM CDT / 9PM UTC is the first Steem Poker community event this week. Since the Steem Pro League is still transitioning from Pokerstars to the new platform, if you want to play in the Pro League you have to:
- download the free PokerStars software.
- follow the instructions in the GIF below
- be sure to enter your @steemitusername correctly
The next event this week in the Steem Poker community is the @spl 's poker tournament (apart of the Steem Poker League Standings). The poker tournament begins at 12PM CDT/ 5PM UTC this Thursday, July 13.
The poker tournament is hosted on http://lucksacks.net/ so all you have to do is go to the platform, find the tournament and sign-up. Sign-ups will be open Thursday to cut down on the amount of AFK (absent players) which improves the gameplay for players.
The last event on the Steem Poker community's schedule this week is the Weekly Thursday Steem Poker Tourney hosted by @chiefmappster. The Weekly Thursday Steem Poker Tourney starts at 5PM CDT / 10PM UTC and will begin sign-ups on Thursday. The prize pool this week has been increased so graciously by @guyfawkes4-20 donation.
This Tourney is also on the http://lucksacks.net/ platform, so all you have to do is sign into your account and you are off to the races.
