In case you aren't aware of it
The Federal Communications Commission of the United States wants to repeal the Net Neutrality protection. This would give Internet Service Providers the power to control the content browsed through their network.
Is this a big deal?
Well, take a long look at this picture.

Is this the internet you want?
In many cases the letting the free market competition solve issues is a great approach, it usually yields the most effective outcome. However, Internet Service Providers in the US are already holding a monopoly. The combined Bandwidth of the whole country is shared among few companies AT&T, Charter, Comcast and Verizon.
In areas that are so vital to human prosperity such as internet freedom, open communication and education it is important that we enforce regulations to protect ourselves.
Net Neutrality is the only thing preventing ISPs from blocking access to websites, slowing down internet connections or prioritizing some content over others.
Do we really want to give ISPs this kind of power?
We already had that experiment a few years ago and this is how it went down:

So why is Ajit Pai (president of the FCC) fighting so hard to kill Net Neutrality?

Well, an educated guess would be that AT&T and friends have offered him a very decent amount of money to push this agenda through. Good for you, Ajit, good for you.
What can you do about this?
If you are a US resident who cares about what happens to the Internet in your country and doesn't want ISPs deciding what you get to browse, head over to https://www.fcc.gov/ and submit the web form under "17-108" filings, telling them why Net Neutrality matters to you.

If all fails, lets hope Substratum Network can pull us all out of ths mess.
