Hi everyone,
It is my great pleasure to inform you about another impressive success of my homeland, the Czech Republic.
The Slav Epic (Slovanska Epopej in the Czech language), a series of 20 large canvases painted by the famous Art Nouveau Czech artist Alfons Mucha, was the third most visited exhibition in the world last year.

The canvases were exhibited at the National Art Center in Tokyo, Japan for three months last year during which they were viewed by more than 657,000 visitors. The only two exhibitions that attracted even more people last were an exhibition of medieval Buddhist sculptures known as Unkei and a Paris exhibition of impressionist and post-impressionist paintings collected by the renowned Russian art collector Sergey Scukin.

The Slav Epic was painted by Alfons Mucha between 1910 and 1928 and it depicts scenes from mythology and history of old Czechs and other Slavic tribes. Until 2012, the series was housed at a chateau in the South Moravian town of Moravsky Krumlov, Mucha´s hometown, but it was then moved to the National Gallery in Prague.
