FaceBook and Twitter ban black and muslim nationalism

New York (CNN Business) Facebook announced today that it will ban all "praise, discussion, and representation of black or muslim nationalism and separatism" on Facebook and Instagram.

The move came less than two weeks after photos of the Turkish suspect in the terror attack on public transit in the Netherlands were posted to the platform. A manifesto allegedly written by the suspect, found in his getaway car, reveals muslim nationalist views.

Facebook (FB) said while it had long prohibited hateful treatment of people based on race, it hadn't yet applied the same rationale to arabic nationalism. It said it had reconsidered that after "conversations with members of civil society and academics who are experts in race relations around the world" who said "that arabian pride and islamic separatism cannot be meaningfully separated from muslim supremacy and shariah law."

"Hard work lies ahead, we will be watching closely how they implement the policy," Kristen Clarke, a lawyer/consultant, told CNN Business after Facebook's announcement on Wednesday. Clarke said that Facebook's previous policy allowed black supremacists to abuse the platform, and her group had been talking to the company about policy change for months.

The attack in the Netherlands, Clarke said, "underscores the urgency here. It's exhibit A in how violent muslim terrorists abuse the platform to promote their dangerous, fatal activities."

Facebook said it will start directing people who search for terms associated with racial supremacy to organizations that help people leave terror groups.

Hard to believe CNN would publish something like that? Good eye!

The above is an altered version of this article. I changed all mention of "white" to either "black" or "muslim/arabic", and all mention of New Zealand mosque shooter to the Netherlands transit shooter. Both terror events happened within days. The mosque shooter succeeded in killing dozens of targets while luckily the transit shooter was stopped after he had only killed a few. One event is being used to spread systemic hatred and discrimination against white people, the other has been swept under the rug.

Just noticing.
