Court documents reveal why he gave pal Duane Martin cash.
Lets Start at the beginning.
A trustee presiding over Tisha Campbell-Martin and her husband Duane's bankruptcy case became suspicious of a short sale of their Los Angeles home. The title of the 7,000+ square foot home was sold to a family member, and 100 % of the money used in the sale was provided by Will and Jada Smith, according to court documents.
The Martins, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in January with $15,145,387 in liabilities to creditors. The petition shows assets of only $65,000 in real estate and $248,000 in personal property. Their monthly income is $7,655, with monthly expenses of $16,953.
According to the court documents, in late 2014, Duane Martin’s brother Michael and Derek Folk, the couple’s tax preparer created Roxe LLC, to purchase the home. The sale was 100% funded the company Treyball, which appears to be owned by Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, who have been friends with Duane and Tisha Martin for years. The Martins s then prepaid monthly rents to the landlord - Roxe LLC - despite there being no contractual obligation to do so.
The trustee presiding over the case suggests that the couple transferred the title to Roxe LLC potentially because they knew they were filing for bankruptcy and were attempting to save their home from being sold off to pay back creditors. The trustee, David K Gottlieb, headed back to court, claiming they have yet to turn over all requested information regarding their finances despite him sending requests several months ago, which includes a personal laptop to be searched for deleted files.
The couple fear their personal videos, photos and communications including messages with other celebrities couple would be leaked to the press if they handed over their laptop. While the trustee is frustrated with the couples inability to explain or remember most financial details, feels the laptop could be beneficial in obtaining answers.
