This Week in the Sndbox
Welcome to the 34th State of the Sndbox newsletter! This week, we hosted a handful of fun challenges. In celebration of Pi Day we had a crypto themed meme contest and later in the week we announced our first Crypto Logo Art challenge. Both are the first of many as we kick off the @creativecrypto magazine. Our team also posted Steemit tutorials on how to convert SBD into Steem Power and on the basics of Flagging. Other highlights include the beginning of our Dtube series Blockchain & Bourbon!
To discover more great content, be sure to go through our weekly Sndbox Selections of the Week post that we publish each Monday. Also, check out @sndbox-alpha to support rotating themes and discussions!
All About Pi Day
Last Wednesday was 3.14159265359… day. To celebrate such an infinite occasion we thought it would be fun to host our first meme challenge through https://dmania.lol/. Epic Pi themed puns were everywhere. Thanks to all who participated!
Converting your SBD to Steem Power
This tutorial walks through the basics of how to convert your idle SBD into SP using Steemit’s internal exchange or "Market". We also dive into some the essential reasons why you would want to Power Up in the first place. There are a lot of benefits to be gained within the Steem ecosystem and with this post, we’ve highlighted just a few.
- Your votes become stronger
- You earn more curation rewards
- You earn interest on your Steem holdings
- You can use your stake to create new accounts
- You can delegate your Steem Power
- You become a trusted Steward of the blockchain
These are some of the top reasons why we recommend powering-up Steem when you can. Accumulating Steem Power opens up a wide range of financial and social opportunities within Steemit and the blockchain behind it. Read more, here.
Why Flagging is Important
Flagging is one of the most contentious and misunderstood features of the Steem blockchain. At the request of our readers, we took a deeper look into the many advantages of this sometimes unsavory topic.
For new users especially, it can be an absolute mystery in terms of what flagging is and when/how it should be used. In this toolkit post, we’ll look at a series of the best and the worst practices. Read more, here.
Philosophy + Writing + Literature
The next curation team for @sndbox-alpha is a go! For the next month, @anomadsoul, @guyfawkes4-20, @fingersik and @martibis will be curating content focused on Philosophy, Writing, and Literature. If you would like to be considered for a vote with related content or know another fabulous writer who blogs within those themes, be sure to follow @sndbox-alpha account to participate in their submission program and other activities!
Bitcoin Logo Challenge
With this new creative challenge, we're calling all artists, graphic designers and craftspeople of the world. In the spirit of crypto-creativity we ask that you - Pick a famous artist (Picasso, Van Gogh, David Hockney, Michelangelo) whoever you want - or style (cubism, pointilism, bauhaus, deconstructivism, impressionism, etc.) and interpret the Bitcoin logo into that style. Other components of the image (background, details, other elements) are completely up to your imagination.
Here are just a few of the amazing entries so far. Explore more through the comment section and the #creativecrypto tag.
Blockchain & Bourbon
Join us for a fun fireside chat about all things blockchain (and a few things bourbon). This week, we took a look at the recent events concerning crypto advertising on Google, Playboy’s partnership to use Vice tokens, John Oliver’s full-feature report on the crypto space, and a training session on how you can name a new cryptocurrency.
