Florentino Perez, the newly reelected president of Real Madrid, doesn’t believe that Alvaro Morata will, in fact, leave the club for Manchester United.
During the summer break rumors of football transfers pour down like a flood. All of them are credited to different, often mysterious, sources. Or it’s a matter of journalists trying to read through the lines of player’s quotes and determine whether a player might want to leave their club.
But as far as rumors go, the one about Alvaro Morata leaving Real and joining Manchester United seemed one of the most plausible. The player hinted towards it, his agent confirmed the existence of negotiations and it was no secret that Man. Utd. were shopping around for (at least) one striker. Add to that the fact that Morata was often benched during Real’s previous season and he would naturally be anxious to get more playing time.
Real’s newly reelected president, Florentino Perez, assures Madrid fans that the striker’s supposed move is far from being a certainty. Perez, in fact, says that to his knowledge the player seems content with his situation at the club.
“I do not think he’s going to leave at all,” Perez tells Onda Cero. “Nobody wants Morata to leave. I have not talked to him or his father. We are happy. I read there is an agreement for €75million, but there is nothing.”
Another player rumored for a long time to be departing Real is Colombian James Rodriguez. Similarly to Morata, Rodriguez was not given a lot of playing opportunities by manager Zinedine Zidane. Perez believes that in this case, as well, the media has exaggerated the player’s desire to leave. He reassured fans that: “James is a Madrid player. No one had told us anything and we are delighted with him.”
Perez promised stability and steady growth for the club in his election bid. He says that the club continues to monitor some of the most interesting young talent out there. As was perhaps expected, he claims the club is keeping track of Kylian Mbappe and Gianluigi Donnarumma.
“Mbappe has some very good ways and surely he’ll become one of the greatest. We are following him, of course.”
“Everyone says he’s a great player [Donnarumma], he’s going to be the substitute for Buffon,” Perez says. “And he seems to have very good manners. Surely we are watching him. But we will not talk about what we are doing.”
Signing two of the most in-demand players in the world might seem like a boast were it not coming from the man responsible for bringing together the star power of the Galacticos squad. With clubs having to decide their teams’ rosters for next season, we should receive updates soon enough.
