Pig business has been a family business even before i was born. I know virtually almost everything there is to know about them. Pigs are very stubborn animals and are very strong most especially their snout. They can use it to destroy concretes in the floor as they have done several times on my farm.

As a jobless graduate, i feel staying at home with the excuse of not being able to secure a job will only portray me as a lazy person. Instead of staying at home, i have decided to to take over the farm for a while till i am able to secure a better job.

Though the work is very stressful and always leave one with back pain all the time, it can sometimes be fun to take care of the animals. Since they cannot take care of themselves(lol). It is fun to watch the animals play and fight especially the piglets. The boars and sows are very aggressive so they hurt themselves most time they fight.

Another funny thing to watch them do is to mate. Funny in the sense that when you notice a sow(female pig) is on her heat period, then you look for a boar to give to her. Boars are always active and ready for sex even when they are hungry. Immediately the boar enters int the sow's pen, they start making a funny sound and produce whitish foamy saliva, whatever that is for anyways. Most times the sows plays hard to get but will later succumb and they have a nice time. The male genitals looks kind of awkward though as it has the shape is like that of a spring.

My Daily Activities On My Farm

Cleaning

The first thing i do early in the morning is to sweep their pen. By that time, some of the pigs will still be sleeping. I sweep and pack their wastes. Ill do that for all the pen.

Feeding.

After sweeping, the next thing to do is to serve them food as by this time, they would have been feeling hungry. The commonest feed for for pigs here is palm kernel cake(p.k.c). I mix it together with cassava peel, cooked blood meal and soya beans(waste) For the piglets ill remove the use broiler stater instead of cassava peel. Once the mixture is done then it is time to eat. This is the period i hate most because they make annoying sounds in response to their hunger. If only they would understand the fact that the food is theirs and there is no way they wont have it..

Water

After the feed is water. They like water a lot as they play in it after drinking to their satisfaction. I don't need to go to the river as there is a water system already.

Cross Checking

After i must have served water to all. The next thing to do is to go round the farm and check for the following

• Animals that needs medical attention

• Animals that have finished their feed and they need more.

• Sows that are in heat period so that the needed can be done.

• Pens that needs renovation.

By this time o must have concluded my work. Ill go freshen up. Take my bath and apply a lot of perfume(e.t.c)
