ARISE NIGERIA! WALK THE TALK - #pray4nigeria

It is with a heavy heart and a great burden that I mused on the Nigerian National Anthem this evening. While pondering on the great lines and the verses of the anthems (both old and new), questions roused from my heart like fire on the present sate of our dear Nation. I grew up to here Nigeria to be "Africa's Giant", but lo! I am yet to sync this with the witnesses I have. Take a glance at these verses:

Verse 1:

Arise, O compatriots, Nigeria's call obey
To serve our fatherland
With love and strength and faith
The labor of our heroes past
Shall never be in vain
To serve with heart and might
One nation bound in freedom, peace, and unity.

My analysis on verse 1:

Are we compatriots indeed? Do we esteem the interest of our nation above our selfish interest and ambition? Do we indeed serve our fatherland or are we not serving our pockets and families? Where is the fruit of our heroes' labours? where are they?Where is the value of our Naira? Can we even use coins in at he remotest of villages in Nigeria? Do e serve with our heart or with our lips? Where is the freedom to speech, religion, creativity, information and election franchise? Where is the peace? From the deserts of the North to the swamps of the South are swords, killings deaths and wars....

OH NIGERIA!!!!!!

Verse 2:

Oh God of creation, direct our noble cause
Guide our leaders right
Help our youth and truth to know
In love and honesty to grow
And living just and true
Great lofty heights attain
To build a nation where peace and justice shall reign.

My analysis on verse 1:

Where is the place of God in Nigeria? Our we guided by His words and deeds or are we not following our dubious ways? Our youths are growing by the grace of God but our leaders call them lazy Where is our rich values and modesty? Honesty is no more the best policy - Oh Nigeria!!! What heights have we attained? Our economy go down by each day. Where is justice? What is the fate of the common man? Haven't the judiciary system infiltrated??

OH NIGERIA!!!!!

The Old National Anthem:

Nigeria we hail thee
Our own dear native land
Though tribe and tongue may differ
In brotherhood we stand
Nigerians all and proud to serve
Our sovereign motherland

Our flag shall be a symbol
That truth and justice reign
In peace or battle honour
And this we count as gain
To pass unto our children
A banner without stain

O God of all creation
Grant this our one request
Help us to build a nation
Where no man is oppressed
And so with peace and plenty
Nigeria may be blessed

What about our pledge to Nigeria?

We have been saying:

I pledge to Nigeria, my country
To be faithful, loyal, and honest
To serve Nigeria with all my strength
To defend her unity
And uphold her honor and glory
So help me God.

But, have we lived to the tenets of our declaration? Where is our honesty? Where is our loyalty? Where is our humility in service? Are we unified? Where is Nigeria's honour? Where is the glory of Nigeria?

OH NIGERIA!!!

Nigeria now lies in ruins as a desolate land. The masses no more have the trust of the leaders. Our franchise are no more respected. The man know man ideology is now invoke. No more value for merit.

OH NIGERIA !!!!
