Discovering Venice with alequandro! #2 - Bovolo Staircase

Hello everyone!
Today for the first official post in my series: "Discovering Venice with alequandro!" I wanted to deepen the Bovolo Staircase that I had shown only externally in one of my old post about Venice.

I chose to visit the Bovolo Staricase because I had never visited internally, in fact until a few months ago it was not open because they were doing a conservative and structural restructuring.

This scale is a hidden jewel. It is located near Campo Manin and to get there you have to go through narrow alleys that barely pass two people side by side.

Towards the end of the fifteenth century it was commissioned by Pietro Contarini who wanted it to give prestige to his family.

The scale had so much resonance that citizenship gave the nickname to the family: the Contarini del Bovolo family.
Bovolo because it recalls the particular shape of the "snail shell" scale that in Venetian is called "bovolo".

I was really lucky because there were very few visitors.
This staircase is hidden, so tourists and the guides who visit it are few.

There are openings with round arches supported by columns with Renaissance style capitals.
The rhythmic succession of walls and openings give an elegant and light appearance both internally and externally.
The diameter of the cylindrical tower is 4.70 meters.

Bricks and Istrian stone were used, materials typically used in Venice.

Going up the stairs you begin to appreciate the typical Venetian building fabric with pitched roofs made with the typical tiles made in bricks (in Italian "coppi").

After 80 steps I find myself at the highest level of the tower which is 26 meters high and I approach the most beautiful area of the tower: the dome lookout!

How beautiful!! I would have been there all day !!
I was alone and I fully enjoyed that 270 ° view of Venice.
Poetry for the eyes and for the soul.

Guys, I thought of you too, so I tried to make a short video ...

Look how beautiful! From here you can see the bell tower and the Basilica of San Marco and behind the tower, the roof of Ducale Palace!

I take a last look and admire the tower that stands out in all its height.
You do not realize how high you are!

The idea of this photographic project in Venice is pleasing and involves me more and more. For me it is also an opportunity to visit new places and learn really interesting things.

It's challenging but I do it willingly, I hope you too will appreciate this idea.
This first virtual visit I liked very much and I hope through the photos to have made you feel a bit 'in this extraordinary place.

Thank you for visiting! The discovery of Venice continues, follow me for other interesting episodes !! ;)
