A song about about friendship and the value of a good conversation, pondering the birds, dedicated to a baby hawk we buried this week.
Climb Into Another Lifetime
What's the story behind this song?
This song arrived in 2009, when I was torn between two places, seeking home. I had a job offer at The Himalayan Institute, in Pennsylvania, and I had a grad school invitation at The University of Texas, in Austin. I moved to Austin on the day before school started, and I've lived here ever since. The people here feel like home to me.
In the time I spent in limbo, wondering where to be, I shared some tremendous connections with people. Everywhere I went, I connected with someone fresh and new. It was like falling in love with a different person every day. But then the day ended, or the concert ended, or the trip ended... and then I was alone. Not that I felt lonely, necessarily, but I wished the connections were longer lasting.
Just after I finished school, a couple of years later, I met @wildfamily, and this song took on another meaning for me. It became a song about our connection. She is my twin flame, you might say, and so I honor this relationship as a divine union, and it's fun to sing with this in mind. We sang it at our wedding reception. Sometimes, I still to reflect on the first people who inspired this song, and mostly I think of my family, some of whom are already up in the arena of lights. Because of the high notes, this song is especially fun to sing full-blast in the outdoors!
Thank you to @luzcypher and the supportive crew who make this Open Mic possible, and thanks to all of the kind supporters of live music.
