For this week's theme, Lost and Found, I wrote a song called "Lost in the Sun."
This is an entry in the Open Mic Songwriter's Challenge, sponsored by @meno and hosted by @luzcypher. The other judges are #openmic judges @krystle and @passion-ground. There are already some amazing songs being created as a result of this contest; Check it out!
It seems I'm destined to compete in this entire competition with a mere ukulele, but I promise that if and when I win the contest (LOL) I will immediately start re-honing my guitar skills. It's not the size of the instrument...
Lost in the Sun
LYRICS
I’m walking down this road, and I’m lost in the sun,
And he’s facing me back and I’m sinking,
‘Cause the coffee don’t work and my fingers are numb
And I’m sick on this whiskey I’m drinking.
I’m on my way down to a much better town,
But I’m not gonna get there today.
The waves have me tossed and I’m way more than lost;
I expect to be wrecked, run aground,
Reminding myself that I’ve got half my health
And I’d rather be lost than be found.
But if somebody tried to bum me a ride
I doubt that I’d send them away.
By sheer force of will I can crest the next hill,
I’ll be blessed if I still have my eyes,
‘Cause the sun’s been so bright, and the tongues been so sharp,
Of the liars with all of their lies.
And this bag that’s been dragging me’s heavy and wet,
But I ain’t about to let it go now.
Please believe me,
I got no room for more regret,
Please retrieve me,
I ain’t begun to entertain you yet.
They say time’s a figment of imagination;
You stay young if you live for today.
Then somebody tell me, with each setting sun,
Why the hell am I wasting away?
Before I get old, get me out of the cold,
‘Cause wandering free ain’t the way I can be,
Wish I could have stayed young and afraid,
But I can’t so let’s clean up the mess that I made,
I know where I’ve been; I don’t care where I’m bound,
But I pray that someday I’ll get lost where I’m found,
I’m on my way down to a much brighter town, But I’m not gonna get there today.
