Open Mic Songwriter's Challenge - Week 6 - Special Delivery

The amazing Songwriter's Challenge is almost coming to a close! Only two weeks to go!

When this is over, regardless of who wins what, I will remember this Challenge as one of the greatest accomplishments of my life. I am also extraordinarily proud of all the other songwriters who have stepped up and made this challenge their own. Y'all know who you are. Thanks for all your support!

For Special Delivery I had a lot of ideas, and believe-it-or-not, this song is one of the more serious ones.

Here it is. My salute to UPS drivers!

Special Delivery

Lyrics

I am your friendly UPS driver,
If I don’t arrive by five, you’ll have to wait another day.
Why couldn’t I be a stationary man?
Instead I’m bound to travel town to town in my brown van.

Ooooh, I’m bringing it to you…
What do you have for me?
I’m carrying it through
To where it needs to be the one thing…
That sets you free, that special something,
Just remember that you got it thanks to me,
Your special delivery.

I promise to be careful with your treasures I must tow,
My truck is riding low beneath the weight of all these things.
Cause happiness is fleeting like this mess of season’s greetings
And I hope that I’m exceeding all your freight-related needs.

Oooh, I’m bringing it to you,
What’d you do for me?
Don’t make a bad review…
How can I help you see this job is hard,
And the miles are so long,
And I’ve almost had enough of your guard dog’s stressful song,
So don’t be mad if startled I must flee,
With your special delivery.

And just when I am ready to surrender;
To give my mind and cruise control a rest,
On the floor I see, there’s a package just for me,
Special delivery is best…

Oooh, I’m bringing it to you,
What do you have for me?
I’m carrying you through
To where you’re meant to be… The one thing
That sets you free, that special something…
Just remember that you got it thanks to me…
Your special delivery.
