Steemit Open Mic Week 62 - Original Song - Blues Man with a Ukulele

All right, friends! I'm back this week with an original for #openmic!

As most of you know, a lot of us have been competing in a little contest, sponsored by our musical friend, @meno.

There have already been some incredible entries and we've only just completed the second week of the eight week competition. I think this is simply beautiful. By the end of this contest, Steemit, #openmic, @meno, @luzcypher, @pfunk, @passion-ground, @krystle, etc. will have facilitated the birth of hundreds of new pieces of music. I wouldn't be writing all these songs if it wasn't for all your amazing support, and I'm sure there are others like me.

I don't expect to win anything, against all this amazing Steemian talent. But if you're reading this, you're the one who's been inspiring me and pushing me to my limits. Keep up the good work, and thank you a thousand times!

Anyway, on to the video...

I have a bit of a complex about my ukulele and how it stacks up to all these guitars, pianos, cellos, etc. I really want to buy a guitar, but I'm holding out (on the thin possibility of winning the grand prize).

My #OpenMic entry this week: Blues Man with a Ukulele

Lyrics

I mean it, Steemit, my love is true,
But I’ve only got a ukulele to play for you,
Can’t you see? I wanna sing you the blues,
But each time I’ve tried, I just died inside,
With this tiny thing I got nowhere to hide,
My git-fiddle’s only a uke.

My baby done left me for another man,
But I ain’t surprised ‘cause he’s in a band
With guitars and drums, and a bass that can hit the low notes,
I tried to play the blues on my ukulele,
And baby that’s all she wrote.

Blues man with a ukulele,
Ain’t no six-string in sight.
Blues man with a ukulele,
Ain’t no six-string in sight.
But if a lady came along and wanted to buy me a guitar,
You know I’d treat her right.

Never been to Hawaii,
But I hear it’s pretty warm,
Never been to Hawaii,
But I hear it’s nice and warm.
And in spite of all your preconceived notions about tiny instruments
That you can pick up for twenty bucks at any flea market,
Me and my ukulele can still perform.

Writing a song a week is harder than it seems,
I said writing a song a week is harder than it seems,
I’m an absent-minded word-cloud
Of endless verbs and nouns,
And broken ukulele dreams.

Blues man with a ukulele,
Probably won’t win no guitar.
Blues man with a ukulele,
Probably ain’t gonna win no guitar.
But I’m on a mission with stiff competition,
It’s leaving me wishin’ that I enjoyed fishin’
Gonna be a living room star.
