Steemit Open Mic 51: matt sokol - relaxing on pins and needles (SPLITSCREEN4)

Finally getting back into the Splitscreen vid groove with this new song. I don't have my drums set up yet, but why let that get in the way?

I am a firm believer in making music with whatever tools I have available. It's always a good time to make music. This one was inspired by those classical guitar vids from @oliverwaterman - he got me wanting to try and write something in that vein, utilizing some contrapuntal melodic movement and intricate chords.

I'll be honest, recording this song was fucking intense. I got SO MAD because I could. not. make it sound right. I remember trying to record some of these themes a few months ago and giving up, this time I had to get it.

There's a lot going on here... it doesn't sound technical, but it's strangely difficult. Here's a glance at some of the sheet music to give you an idea of the intricacies of the tune:

Towards the end of the recording process I was FUMING, and then finally, with all of the intensity of the energy in my head, I managed to convey it via my guitars and get this thing down.

I feel better now, if a bit tired:

...sometimes you just gotta push through and get the song down, no matter what.

Splitscreen vids take a long time, but they are so worth it. More of these coming soon... and until then, I look forward to listening through as many of the Open Mic submissions as I can in the next few days. Open mic is huge now, and that is awesome. Cheers, pals.

p.s. - wanna see it on sheet music? here's the Guitar Pro file for this song: http://bit.ly/sokol-splitscreen4
