My grandfather was a WWII vet. Two weeks before he died, I recorded him telling his war stories one last time. The recording of the song was inspired by Wounded Warrior Project, an organization I support.
Lyrics
It's time to say goodbye
Put your uniform away
I never saw you cry
Don't think I will today
The camera's on the stand
Red light's begun to glow
I'll smile even though
My heart breaks doing so
And I will hear about the war
I will hear about the war
And I will hear about the war
And I'm right here while you feel it
It's time to say goodbye
Put your uniform away
I wish we had more time
Instead of just today
Someday years from now
When you're just a name
And I take the camera down
I hope I feel the same
As I hear about the war
I will hear about the war
I will hear about the war
And I'll keep on hearing till I feel it
