Steemit Open Mic Week 96: Chocolate Kiss (Original Music)

winter landscape

This song is a breath of winter in the middle of summer.

It’s another new composition, written from the theme of this week’s #artofmusic contest, run by @killerwhale.

I also missed doing an Open Mic entry last week. I’ve been so busy with summer fun (and chores) that I’m struggling to find time to post. Since I won the Art of Music contest last week (YAY!!!), I decided to step aside this week and use the song for my Open Mic entry. Thanks to @enginewitty for all the inspiration and support.

This song came from one word: Chocolate.

It’s a whisper of a song. I find the guitar plucking tricky, as I usually use a pic, but the rhythm is like a wave inside me. Feels so good. It’s a brand new song, and I expect the music will come easier the more I play it.

Hope you enjoy! Lyrics below.

Chocolate Kiss — original music by Katrina Ariel

My breath mists in the air so crisp
I’m never alone on nights like this
You’re in my heart even though I miss
The sweetness of your chocolate kiss

Pine frost tastes of coming snow
I can’t tell you but I’m sure you know
I think of you when Orion’s glow
Graces the sky, and darkness grows

The fire cracked, I took a step back
But you didn’t let me go
You calmed my timid mind, and brought me inside,
Out of the swirling snow

Will you roll through town again this year?
Come for the mountains towering here
Come for the woman you used to know
And the magic of the snow

The fire cracks, I bring myself back
Above Orion glows
The stars know I wish for your chocolate kiss
And the magic of the snow

The fire cracked, I took a step back
But you didn’t let me go
You calmed my timid mind, and brought me inside,
Out of the swirling snow

My breath mists in the air so crisp
I’m never alone on nights like this
You’re in my heart even though I miss
The sweetness of your chocolate kiss

This scene is fictional, though it pulls from places in my past. It brings me deep into the mountains, to the warmth of a wood stove, the quiet of snow, and the longing of a lover who comes and goes with the seasons.

Thanks so much for listening!

Whatever happens, keep singing your song!

Peace. @katrina-ariel
