Open Mic Week 83 - Meno - Top 5 Picks and Honorable Mentions

We are closing another amazing week at the #openmic my friends. I love how more and more entrants are joining our family with original material. The songs are just gems, gems I tell you and its because of this somewhat unique niche to our community that we have started talks about The Songwriter's Challenge Season 2. Expect for some dates and details to be announced soon.

Without any more delays, here we go:

First Place.-

@breakoutthecrazy - Pause, Rewind (original song)

What I'm about to say is going to make absolutely no sense to anyone else but me. This song makes me so angry, so angry I want to throw my computer out the window. Its so beautiful, its so catchy, the lyrics are so brilliant I can't believe I'm lucky enough to be listening to this for the tenth time (as I'm writing this). This song ladies and gents, this is up there with the tunes that transcend generations. OMG... I'm so angry.... I'm so inspired.

If you have not heard it, you are robbing yourself from the opportunity to surrender to emotions... click it, click it now... don't wait, put the phone on silence....

Second Place.-

@yidneth - Flame (Original Song)

I don't remember exactly when I stopped believing in magic. I suspect I must have been a teenager, somehow someway I would always figure out all the tricks and thus the illusion was broken for ever. That is until a fairy found this platform, started not only to share her beautiful soul with us, but her amazing magical voice.

I'm never surprised when @yidneth blows it out of the water, I'm ready for the feels the moment I click. Are you ready?

Third Place.-

@paulobassman - Durmiendome (original song)

The creative powerhouse from the land of the Lusitans is not ready to slow down, not in the slightest and for this week's entry they have recruited an exquisitely talented singer/percussionist from the land to the west. I absolutely loved the performance guys, the groove was right in the pocket where it belongs and the vocals shined with ease.

Quick question, why is your friend not on Steem? What's going on?

Fourth Place.-

@silentscreamer - May it be (cover)

I may be a tiny biased with this choice since I love this song already quite enough. To my defense I will say that @silentscreamer not only performed it to a degree that can warm even a vampire's heart, but the violin playing had so much emotion that It spoke just as loud as her gorgeous vocals.

I don't know what to tell you, you just need to click... but don't laptop this one, don't do that to yourself, go get some nice headphones and close your eyes.

Fifth Place.-

@moccamonica - Lullaby Birdland (cover)

So this just happened. The new generation of musicians doing a cover of none other than Ella Fitzgerald, the undisputed queen of jazz. I must admit that if some young faces where to come up to me and tell me "We are gonna do a Fitzgerald song for the open mic next week" my knee jerk reaction would be "ARE YOU SURE???".

You guys can't see me, but I'm clapping... bravo, bravo!!

Honorable Mentions

In no particular order, these are some of the performances I loved this week.... I'm super grateful for being someone who gets to listen to this talent.

@darrenclaxton - Waiting on a Rain cloud (original)

@steembirds - SMTS a Shitcoin (original comedy)

(I laughed like I need meds)

@gentle.ben - Not tonight (original song)

@paintingangels - Carnival Lights down

@drewsmusic - Down the road (original)

Don't forget to checkout the official Steemit OpenMic judges picks from @passion-ground @krystle @soundlegion and @verbal-d. Winners selected and announced every Monday on @luzcypher's blog page.

And that is it for me and week 83, not too late in the day, not like last time... Ready to do this all over again!!!

But hey friend, before you leave my post musical brother or musical sister, please know that despite the fact that we call this a competition, even though my post says first, second, third place, that is not what matters about the #openmic. In the end of the day the judges are just as human, as flawed and beautiful as everyone else on this planet. The ethos of this contest, of this community, is simply for us to have special place to share our passion for music, for us to laugh together, to cry together and explore emotions that everyday life seems to neglect in one way or another.

Every single one of you is valuable to me, so thank you for being part of my musical family...

Much love
