Hey everybody! Hope you're all having a great week 70, and I'm pleased to be joining in the fun. Thanks to @luzcypher and @pfunk for making this space the place to be week after week.
I enjoy all of the cover performances I see/hear all over #Steemit, but as we try to draw more talented artists into the community there needs to be a push to open up more space for original music, and I'm hoping to play a big role in the community that's making Steemit a place for #artists who are also their own best #songwriters.
With that in mind I performed another original song for y'all this week. The lyrics to this one read like the script to a western noir about a girl, a gun and a bag of money.
Read along...
She tied a red bandanna around her arm
to hide her black tattoo
She had a .357 full of flat-nosed slugs
that did what it needed to do
She had her Link Wray on the radio
Oh, Jack he was rippin' it up
She poured the cold Coca-Cola between her legs
into a half full whiskey cup
And it's alleluia praise the Lord
for two lanes and a tuned up Ford
You keep your eyes wide open
in the middle of the night
You got the plastic Jesus
in the dashboard light
She drove into town late last night
with a tank full of nothin' at all
She found the gasoline, found the cigarette machine
and cut her hair in the ladies room stall
She got a heart like an armadillo
She got sneaky sidewinder eyes
She got a mouth like Mary Magdalene
Her lips both drip with sighs
She drove three days from Vegas -
black coffee and a little white cross
She had no idea where she was going,
but that kept her from getting lost
She was nervous as a hen house
when the farmer's gone to get the ax
She had a hundred thousand dollars in unmarked bills
behind the backseat in a laundry sack
