Here are two original songs by me. (Scroll down for lyrics)
Hollow: This is a song I wrote a couple years ago reflecting on the loss of a deep, important relationship. More so, reflecting on what is (or isn't) in me that influenced my choices. This is the "half empty" half.
Hollow by ghost_trees (@throughtheglass)
Mostly hollow
like bones without the marrow
a target without the arrow
life in love with a ghost
I know
we're gone, not looking back
all I see is that busted rusty track
and our smoldering wreck
We met and did that dance
came quick at first, then I lost the step
maybe someday I'll learn
Spin around and try again
so far beyond a second chance
maybe someday I'll learn
Still mostly hollow
a lost boy too proud to follow
innocence hung from the gallows
I still drown in the shallows
Doesn't take that much
lack of maintenance breeds the mark of rust
Heavy with the dust of my dead skin
cover up keep dying, maybe someday I'll learn
Well that was sorta heavy. Let's move on to something more pleasant. The old sad song/good cop routine.
Notebooks: I wrote this song only a couple weeks before the Hollow. I had just started to feel the touch of love for the first time since I'd lost it so spectacularly, when my dad happened to be watching "The Notebook" (go figure). I caught like 5 minutes and thought the movie seemed pretty cheesy, but that the concept was beautiful. This is the distillation of those thoughts.
Definitely the "half full" half.
notEbooks by ghost_trees (@throughtheglass)
Let's pretend, we've both seen the end
we traveled back to live it out again
It's so hard, so easy to forget
the twists and turns beyond the bend
We dig for our footprints all across the riverbed
we won't find them, so we'll make new ones instead
Wait for the water to come fill them again
wait for the water to come fill them again
When the water comes
to flood the life we had
Reach for my hand we'll wake
eyes wide in far off lands
But if you're gone
I'll wait for your breath
If you're gone
I'll wait for your breath
If you're gone
I'll wait, I'll wait, I'll wait
When we're old and our atoms fall apart
soul and body so positively charged
We'll know this life was nice
with far more than our share of love
Let's wrap up, restart
I still haven't had enough
When I'm dead, I still wait for your breath...
Well there you have it. A couple songs to share a piece of me with you. If anyone is interested in hearing more of my music, I'd gladly record and post some of my newer stuff, or I can do videos if you like.
This is barely filtered me @throughtheglass
