There was an American version and a UK version.
See video clip at end of article.
According to Wikipedia,
According to Kaye, 26 missing children were found after being featured in the video.
Tony Kaye directed the video.
The UK version of the video featured Vicky Hamilton and Dinah McNicol, who each went missing in 1991. Their remains were found in 2007 at a house in Margate. Peter Tobin has since been convicted of both murders.
Also in the UK version,
Curtis Huntzinger, who was featured in the US video, was located deceased in 2008. His convicted killer, Stephen Daniel Hash, is currently serving a sentence of 11 years for manslaughter in Folsom State Prison.

Some interesting information on the Huntzinger case which I will be putting in another article due to how involved it is.
After the video, in an ending also not regularly shown, Pirner says in front of the camera, "If you've seen one of these kids, or you are one of them, please call this number," with the following screen showing a number one could contact. MTV cut this part out because they did not want to have the video confused with being a public service announcement. VH1 shows the UK version in its full length.
There were three original versions of the video in the United States, totaling 36 missing children shown. The children shown varied with the location of the broadcast, using missing children from that area.
In 2006, guitarist Dan Murphy stated in an interview with Pasadena Weekly that some of the cases featured in the video had ended in tragedy: "Some weren't the best scenarios. I met a fireman on the East Coast whose daughter was in the end of the video, and he'd been in a bitter custody battle with his wife over her", Murphy said. "It turned out the girl hadn't run away, but was killed and buried in her backyard by her mother.
Also featured in the UK version was Mark Bartley, a runaway who went missing in 1992. He was recognized in the video by a man who knew Bartley was staying in the tenant's house below them, but was unaware of his missing status. By the time the police arrived, Bartley and the man he was living with were gone. It is unknown what happened to him after this.

Christopher Kerze. .. a missing Americanteenager from Eagan, Minnesota, who was last seen on April 20, 1990. His abandoned vehicle was found two days after his disappearance. He is featured in Soul Asylum's music video for Runaway Train.
On April 20, 1990, Kerze reportedly stayed home from school indicating that he was sick. The family vehicle, a blue 1988 Dodge Caravan, was missing when his parents returned home later that day. They found a note from Kerze stating that he would be back by 6 pm unless he got lost – which was unusual, as the word lost was underlined twice on the note. The family then received a letter from Duluth, Minnesota, on April 21, 1990, that indicated that Kerze may have lied to gain usage of the van and the writer indicated they did not know where Kerze was going. Kerze had an O.F. Mossberg & Sons 20-gauge shotgun with him, although he had not taken any ammunition. Authorities have speculated that he may have discarded the gun but they are not certain of that. The van was located abandoned two days later on April 22, 1990, near Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
After Christopher's disappearance, posters were distributed and extensive searches were made in an attempt to find him. In 2004 an anonymous letter was received by the Eagan Police Department suggesting they should stop trying to find Kerze and he would return home when he is ready. The police were unable to authenticate the communication.
There was renewed interest in the case in late 2016 after Jacob Wetterling's case was resolved. New age-progressed photos of Kerze were created and missing persons posters were distributed with those photos. The family also gave media interviews regarding the case.
Byron was last seen at a bus stop at Overhill and Slauson Streets in Los Angeles, California on January 29, 1992. He was planning to visit a music warehouse and video store twenty miles away in West Hollywood, California; he was a regular patron of the store.
Byron never arrived home and has not been seen again. Employees at the store did not recall him entering the business that day.
Byron wasn't having any problems prior to his disappearance; in fact, he was very happy with his life and looking forward to getting his driver's license. He was an excellent student with a perfect attendance record, and he had been accepted at several college within the University of California system. Foul play is suspected in his disappearance, which remains unsolved.

While researching these people who were kids featured in the video Runaway Train came across this in a Yahoo forum and found it interesting.
Curtis Anthony Huntzinger, 1990. (Did some searching, and one of the boys bodies was found in Dec. 08. He was murdered. Curtis Anthony Huntzinger
Huntzinger, 14, disappeared from Blue Lake, California on May 19, 1990. He was originally considered a runaway, but as the years passed police began to suspect foul play in his case. Steven Daniel Hash, a friend of Huntzinger's family, was charged with voluntary manslaughter in Huntzinger's case in December 2008. Days later, he attempted to plead guilty, but the judge refused to let him. Hash lead police to Huntzinger's body, which was entangled in tree roots in a shallow grave on the outskirts of Blue Lake. He faces up to 12 years in prison for manslaughter. )

What is of interest is the fact that the NCMEC listed Curtis as a runaway long after it became obvious he’d met with foul play, and even after Hash’s guilty plea?
Then this curious information from Scared Monkey's Forum,
Chief DA Investigator Mike Hislop said when Hash allegedly dumped the body, the area looked like a “moonscape,” as a result of heavy logging and burning activity.
Despite those major changes to the landscape, Hash was reportedly able to recall the location of the grave well enough to lead investigators within 25 feet of where the body was found, said DA investigator Wayne Cox.
”It must be a vivid memory that's permanently imbedded in his (Hash's) hard drive,” he said.
The same tract of land was searched in 1999 by teams using cadaver dogs, but authorities came up empty. This time, Cox said investigators deployed new methods.
Why did the NCMEC (who by the way has had in it's leadership someone connected to John Podesta and given a top level clearance) have a volunteer and they were able to find the body, when law enforcement could not for 9 years?
Does it appear something is not adding up?
According to Hislop, the body was found by a volunteer who canvassed the area using a high-end metal detector loaned by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The grave was located when the metal detector picked up a faint signal from a small piece of metal on Huntzinger's remains -- possibly a zipper or a coin.

Someone else commented on a forum,
I couldn't find these people on Doe Network, Charley Project, or NCMEC, so hopefully that means they have been found:
Christina Ann Wood, 1991.
Ginger Sue Hudson, 1992.
Heather Lee Yagle, 1990.
Darlene Michelle Hungerford, 1991.
Berenice Espinoza, 1992.
Michelle Ann Farley, 1992.
Emily Tamara Pois, 1992.
Martha was last seen in Daingerfield, Texas on September 5, 1990. She had been visiting relatives in Oklahoma when her parents brought her home to Texas on September 4 to start the school year.
Martha was unhappy and she argued with her parents. The last time they saw her was at 2:20 p.m. At approximately 10:00 p.m., she spoke on the phone with her boyfriend, seventeen-year-old Eric Owens. The next day, both Martha and Eric were gone.
**Found Martha Wes Dunn under the Charley Project also
There was a theory that Martha and Eric had traveled to Hayworth, Oklahoma. Eric's aunt lived there and there were several reported sightings of the pair there. Another theory was that they had gone to Kansas, possibly to the Wichita area; Eric's mother lived in Kansas. Neither of those theories has been confirmed.
On September 30, Martha's father got a call from a friend in Durant, Oklahoma; the friend said he'd seen Martha and Eric together and they were "dirty and hungry," and he cleaned them up and gave them food. When police went to Durant to investigate the report, they couldn't find them.
Eric and Martha were both heavily involved with drugs at the time they went missing; it's possible their disappearances were drug-related. However, there is no evidence of foul play, and police continue to believe they left of their own accord. Both cases remain unsolved.
Parents leaving there kids on streets in certain Scandinavian countries. ..heard about this one time on an old Oprah show and was shocked.
An article from 2015 starts out in this manner,
It seems unnecessary to hire a babysitter just to head down to the corner pub for an impromptu bite with your wife. Then again, it also seems unnecessary to have a toddler crawl all over you while you try to have some conversation over a quick burger and beer, too. But there’s a third way: the Danish way.
In Denmark, parents think nothing of leaving their little Hamlets and Ophelias to snooze outside in their strollers while they do their shopping or down a couple pastries. “It is common practice,” writes an American expat blogger living in Denmark. “Walk around Copenhagen on any given day and you’ll come across dozens of strollers on sidewalks. … Some are obviously empty, but the ones that are all bundled up almost always contain a napping baby or toddler.”
My point is, I’ll bet they’d Love to bring that to America and everywhere possible in light of the Agenda they keep trying to push in Normalizing pedophilia, calling it a disorder rather than a crime, trying to remove boundaries as they did with the little boy who appeared on stage in drag accepting dollar bills and being photographed/video footage taken.

ThomasGibson Missing since 1991
Thomas Dean Gibson, who disappeared from Glendale, Oregon, in 1991 at the age of 2. He is still missing as of 2014, and age-progressed photos of him at age 19 and age 21 were released in 2009 and 2012, respectively, by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. His father, Larry Gibson, a former deputy sheriff, was convicted of second degree manslaughter for accidentally shooting his son to death when he shot at a stray cat in his front yard even though no remains were ever found. He steadfastly denies killing his son and has worked on finding him since being released from prison in 1996.
