DANDY DANDELION--FAVORITE POSTS FROM FELLOW STEEMIANS

DANDY DANDELION--FAVORITE POSTS FROM FELLOW STEEMIANS

Taraxacum officinale, commonly known as DANDELION, is one of the plants I wanted to feature for the week of January 15th, 2018 in the WALK ALONG WITH ME #1 short story series. (See below for more information on my progress with this)

I wanted to change things up a bit because DANDELION has been a very popular plant discussed by a large number of steemians. I could rehash many of the same talking points but what I would rather do is highlight the Steemians who have put forth a lot of effort on this topic already.

I also hope that this will encourage others to use the search feature beside the Promoted tab at the top of the page because there are a shit-ton of older posts worth reading. It is easy to get caught up in the posts of the day in an effort to keep up, because of the 7 day rewards structure, but you could be missing out on some posts which are pure gold. So, if you are not using the search feature within Steemit, give it a try. This is how I found the @homesteading community on @steemit when I first joined. I am happy to be a new member of the community to learn and grow with.

Below are a handful of my favorite links previously posted by other steemians which exemplify just how wonderful Dandelion is.

As you probably have noticed, DANDELION is a rather revered plant by many people who are aware of it's benefits and see it's beauty. Unfortunately, not everyone understands how wonderful it is which is, imo, part of why weed killers like RoundUp have become so popular. At least in the typical suburban neighborhoods here in the Midwest of the United states, many people desire having perfectly manicured lawns and see DANDELION as an annoyance. Hopefully those people come around because they are missing out!!

The reasons I picked Dandelion are:

  • They are beautiful
  • They are native where I live so they grow without any effort on my part
  • The entire plant is edible
  • They grow year after year
  • They have been used for a variety of medicinal applications
  • They self propagate
  • Fond childhood memories of blowing the seeds into the air. Absolutely delightful.

Now that you are more familiar with DANDELION the next post will delve into another common plant I found growing here on to my homestead, which I first mentioned in my recent short story post WALK ALONG WITH ME #1. Stay tuned for the next post on the FALSE INDIGO BUSH!

Previous posts for the week of 1.15.18 WALK ALONG WITH ME #1 series:

To recap, my intention was to write a short story every Monday about my homestead, PheSustainable Farm, then feature one topic each day of the week, so 6 topics, mentioned in the short story. I am a new steemian working on getting into a regular routine of posting daily. This was my personal challenge which now seems a bit too ambitious under the circustances. Last week was my first week trying out this routine. I’ll admit that I am behind. I haven’t quite hit my stride yet.

Because I am behind I have moved some of the topics to a later date. I might continue on with them now or in the spring when I can take better pictures. There is certainly a learning curve but I am up for the challenge, even if I am going slower then I planned. I am doing my best. That’s what is important! Blogging at all is an accomplishment, so onward and upward, right? RIGHT!

This DANDY DANDELION post is the last post for the week of 1.15.18. The next WALK ALONG WITH ME post where I will write a short story about my homestead, PheSustainable Farm will be posted shortly, as soon as I can get it finished. I was hoping for today but I think as late as it is, that won't be possible. For now I will continue to work on this project but slow the pace down until I'm in the groove.

Anyhow, thank you for following along. If you enjoy these posts, I would greatly appreciate a follow, up-vote, and resteem. #PAL
