Little Black Bear came to us with his own kennel,
the sort of thing Prince wouldn't enter for any bribe, until he saw Bear happily retiring to his big black cage.
Prince wondered if he was being left out. Is this a special place? I wanna try it!

“Used Dog” or Second-Hand Puppy?
We drove an 8-hour trip one snowy Sunday in December to buy him from a young couple who found him a bit much to handle. The ad:
10 month old male long-haired collie for sale! Puppy Bear!
He’s in his tween phase and is beautiful! Tri-colored (black, white, and tan) with black and tan markings. He’s very smart like all collies and can be easily trained! He’s great with people and loves everyone. The reason we’re selling him is that we have our own baby on the way and can’t take care of both! Looking for a loving home and family 🙂 He is up-to-date on vaccinations and has been neutered. Please contact for info and if interested! Price includes large crate, some toys, and food/water dishes.
Sire: Bailey’s World Class “Onyx”;
Dam: Bailey’s “Mystic Steel Blue Dandy”
Bear came from a Kansas City breeder, Bailey’s Collies, with a royal lineage:
“Father has 6/15 points for his champion title. Mother’s bloodline was imported from Italy and is stacked full of International Champions and some American Champions as well. Both parents are simply gorgeous with great temperaments.”
We don’t even know the names of Prince’s sire and dam,
blue-collar parents on a dairy farm, purebred without the pedigrees, strong, smart, healthy, and hard working. Prince is neutered anyway, but I have no doubt that our boy is “world class.”
Poor little Bear came to us knowing next to nothing.
He didn't know what to do with Frisbees, balls, ropes, or any other toys, but Prince showed him. Prince, who learned "Drop it!" at 10 weeks, but would never relinquish anything to us in tug-of-war (unless the food bribe was extraordinary) instinctively "let" Bear win in order to motivate him to keep playing. It took months and months of repeated games, but Bear seems to know pretty much everything Prince knows, and he has a few tricks of his own. With Prince almost twice Bear's size and ten times the strength, Bear has to be quick and agile.
No regrets
buying a second collie, even though many warned us that it could be disastrous, even with gentle breeds like Lassie. These two prove what I've said since the first pair of collies we bought:
The best toy you can get your puppy is another puppy!
