you're like a red rose
oceans can't keep us apart
our love's forever

Everyone knows that the red rose is a symbol of love. My haiku is based upon the words of Scottish poet, Robert Burns who wrote a beautiful love song in 1794 comparing his love to A Red, Red Rose. It is written in Lawland (Lowland) Scots, a dialect of the southern part of Scotland, but I think you should get the gist of it!
A Red, Red Rose
O my Luve's like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in june;
O my Luve's like the melodie
That’s sweetly play'd in tune:
As fair art thou, my bonie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry.
Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi' the sun;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.
And fare-thee-weel, my only Luve!
And fare-thee-weel, a while!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho' 'twere ten thousand mile!
Isn't that so romantic? All Sottish schoolchildren in my school days could sing all four verses by heart. I still can. Whenever I see a red rose, my brain is triggered to make me think of these beautiful words and to hum the tune.
