Loosestrife is a plant of the Lythraceae family that grows in wet areas near ponds. Although it is often considered an invasive plant, Loosestrife also has medicinal properties. The plant contains gallanthins, salicarin, ferric hydroxide, flavonoid substances, cyanidol galactosides, choline, glucose, starch, pectins, traces of volatile oil. In phytotherapy is used the aerial part of the rachitan . The plant is used in the treatment of diarrhea, dysentery, inhibition of intestinal microbial pathogen development and intestinal fermentation. In romanian language Loosestrife is known as Rachitan.
