Hong Kong Orchids: Exotic, exhuberant and very beautiful.

There are 100’s of species of Bauhinia, all of which have the exotic, orchid-like flowers and two-lobed leaves.

Many commonly grown Bauhinia come from China and are known there as, ‘Sheep’s Foot Trees’ because the leaves resemble the cloven hooves of sheep.

These beautiful evergreen trees grow up to 7m (20’) tall and their bi-lobed leaves are dark, and shiny with raised veins running through them. The large flowers are deep pink kin colour with the uppermost petal having a darker appearance towards the base.

In Australia, the Hong Kong orchid thrives in Queensland, Northern New South Wales and the more tropical areas of the country.
