"Mister Wise Man" - Ch 4 of I'm Not Sure How I Got Here, But I Think I Flew (Poetry of Guy Malone)

I've been living on this mountain top

    longer than you've been alive
Just rappin' with the mountain goats
who taught me how to survive

And I've been working on the universe
    while you've been working nine-to-five
A few brave souls come up to see me
just to listen to me jive...

they say,
"Tell us Mister Wise Man, upon which path should we trod?
They say you know the secrets of the ages,
That you're on a first name basis with God."

The world spins on a fine line
and we compete in an inhuman race
I watch the stars circling up above
    and I've met them face-to-face
More today than yesterday climb up to this sacred place
They're so worried about the future
and can they keep the pace?

they say,
"Tell us Mister Wise Man, the secrets of the earth.
Did Rockefeller bank on an inside job?
To whose son did my wife give birth?"

From the angels up in heaven
to the shores of seven seas
I could tell you about the sky's blues
why there's a quiver in your knees
    The reputation of my wisdom
    spreads like some damned disease
Here come more of them seeking answers
"Now tell us won't you please..........?"

And they say,
"Tell us Mister Wise Man, tell us what happened to love?
Can Armageddon be that far away?
Has peace now come to shove?"

 But I gotta admit,
        I'm so full of shit
        Explaining the whole bit
        to you...

All the logic I used?
        Your trust I abused
        Really I'm more confused
        than you...

(Above is the original ending, but I then "niced it up" a bit to publish in high school to this "happier" ending... Tell me which you like better! -g-)

You say I know the answers
I say you know them too
And that secret road to happiness
lies in the discovery of you

Well don't believe in wise men
        who talk until they're blue
        Isolated on this mountaintop
the things I know are few
