Coral reefs are the most diverse marine ecosystems in our oceans and are home to an enormously diverse range of marine organisms. As many as one quarter of all marine species depend on coral reefs for their survival.
Sadly, we have lost half of the corals on the Great Barrier Reef since 2016. We need to find a way to live more harmoniously with these beautiful ecosystems if we are to avoid catastrophic biodiversity loss in the future.
