Only about 7 percent of the world’s oceans are protected. With continual declines of fish stocks globally, it is up to us to make sure that marine life and its habitats are not just protected on paper. It is really important that nations and communities worldwide make sure that when our underwater world is protected that there are sufficient rules that protect some wild places from human extractive activities, like fishing and mining, and that the rules are adequately enforced.
