Photos and a recipe from weekend food trail in Singapore (by @ace108)

If you are looking for the recipe and not in the mood to read the whole story, scroll to the bottom. Otherwise, hope you enjoy reading this.

Starting the food trail

This morning, I finished the usual session of taijiquan (太极拳) with the usual gang this morning and headed to Suntec City to run some errand. Decided to start the food trail in Suntec City as wasn't in the mood to join the crowd at the food festival. It was just close to noon and there was this Japanese Buffet Restaurant (I think I won't advertise here) which seems popular enough for lunch buffet on Saturday. On weekdays, they have one hour lunch buffet too. What's interesting is few hours later, they have high tea buffet which cost less than lunch.

First, some snacks

So, we target for high tea buffet and decided to have a light meal and plan to do some bit shopping thereafter (to get some exercise and work up the appetite for the high tea). The light meal ended up as a two paus with coffee set at the food court - $2.60 for a set is not a bad deal for that location (I must say). I had the char siew pau, lotus paste pau and coffee.

Coffee (again) break

After the snack, the legwork continued until we hit a coffee joint with outdoor sheltered seating facing the fountain. Trust me, look at our cups here.

Quite a good place to watch the cars drive by.

The two lattes were at 1 for 1 special.

Why? If you pick up the coupons booklet from the Suntec City concierge, one of the coupons will get you this deal.

High Tea

After the drink, legwork again till 5 minutes before 1530h, it was time to join the queue at the Japanese Buffee restaurant where the queue has started to form with 2 groups in front of us.

There's a drinks station where you can get free flow of different cold and hot drinks. You have 1 hour from 1530h to get your food but you can enjoy your food until 1700h. You should be there early for the high tea because I noticed there are things like the fried rice and vermicille which does not get refill.

Here are some pictures of the food which is nicely laid out.

There is display at the side which should please fans of Japanese culture.

If you are lucky, your chawan mushi has a little piggy. Not all cups have it.

They have this ginseng scallop porridge which is something you must try if you don't find the smell or taste of ginseng repulsive.

Now, for some sweets

Check out the colours of desserts spread which is in addition to the ice cream and chocolate.

Here is the dessert assembly from my other half.

Buffet tends to makes me sleep after a while and I try to keep myself awake but trying to see if I can come out something creative even as I am feeling sleeping. Looking around the different food, I remember something about eating ice cream with expresso. So, here comes the recipe.

Recipe for ice cream with expresso

1. Scoop of ice cream - I remember it was suggested to be vanila but I scoop the chocolate for today because I thought it will give me a mocha taste

2. Add some chopped peanuts

3. Add a teaspoon of hot fudge

4. Accompany it with other colourful delights of your choice

5. A cup of expresso

Now the ingredients are ready

6. Pour in the expresso over the ice cream and let it drip from the top.

7. There you have it - your expresso ice cream

8. Most important - Enjoy!
