MALAYSIA / CAMERON HIGHLANDS in B&W. (Article and Photographs by C. Lazarus)

Famed for their beauty, colour and vibrancy. One of the greenest places on earth. Malaysia's biggest lung, and here I am showing you images in black and white. The thing is, colour distracts me when I'm trying to enjoy an image. Particularly if it is of a place foreign to me. I want to the see the small details, and black and white images helps me achieve that.

It is easy to fill in the colours of this rice paddock. It was green, many different shades. The sky was grey, that was about it. By removing these colours focus is now on the beautiful patterns the farmers have turned out roll across the hillside, the white pathway that snakes off draws us in.

If you shot digitally it's best to shoot in colour and raw and make your black and white edits in post. But if you want to shoot film, you have to shot on high quality black and white film, the results are superb, but digital editing does the job too.
