Hello everybody!
This unique natural place is situated just a few kilometers from our house.
Laguna Salada de Torrevieja is a salt lake near Torrevieja, Spain, a seaside city located on the Costa Blanca in the province of Alicante, in south-eastern Spain. Torrevieja was originally a salt-mining and fishing village as it is located between the sea and two large salt lakes (Las Salinas), which give Torrevieja a healthy micro climate.
The true stars of this lake are the archaeas (a micro-organism) and dunaliellas (micro- seaweeds) which synthesize the components of the salty water in order to survive. The existence of these two forms of life are what provides the pink, unique hue of the water.
There is very little vegetation in the salt lake ,too high level of salinity. But they are at least 2000 different species of birds, like the lovely pink flamingo’s.
The pink lake has 1,400 hectares and the salt is produced from the south-east corner of the pink lagoon.
The Torrevieja salt lake is the largest in Europe.
We come down here, sometimes to juggling and admire..
