Hi Steemians.
For those of you following my blog you will know that I am a keen amateur photographer.
These are some of my favourite sunset (and one sunrise) pics, all dating from this year over the last few months.
I love taking landscape photographs, and a sunset or sunrise is the perfect time to do this!!!
Scarborough
Scarborough is a small seaside town with a population of around 60,000 people. It doubles in summer a people flock to the beach for a day out (or a weekend). It has some stunning sights, and the beaches are very beautiful.
Disclaimer (some of these may already have been featured on Steemit, some are new edits or exclusives especially crafted for Steemit. )
This photograph is of the sea life centre, which they have made as a pyramid like structure. It's worth a visit to see the rescue animals like seals. They also have a large aquarium, with sharks and other fish, and plenty of activities for children.
This night the sunset was just stunning, I'm not sure if this photograph even does the sunset justice! It was taken just near Cloughton on Station lane, close to the sea.
The lighthouse is situated in the harbour, and a great place to take sunset or sunrise photographs. I did a lot of editing on this photograph, it is around a 30 second exposure, composited with a shorter exposure to compensate for the masts of the boats swaying because of the tide.
This was taken in a rocky bay just North of Scarborough, near the village of Cloughton. The location is known as Cloughton rocks. Again it's a long exposure to capture the smooth effects of the sea. It was dangerous climbing around on the slippy rocks near the sea in the morning!! Luckily my camera and I stayed reasonably dry and safe.
Another shot of the sea life centre, this one has some drama with the geometric shapes.
Town farm in Cloughton has a small lake just behind it. Because of the wide angle lens, the lake appears to be much bigger than it actually is. I actaully used a HDR technique to edit this photo, I don't usuaully do HDR as it can appear over processed but I think that this one has a nice atmosphere.
I got up very early for this photograph, it's actually a compostite made from different exposures to capture the foreground and background. If you just expose for the sky of the foreground, it's impossible to capture both without underexposiing or overexposing one of them, so I bracket my photographs at different exposures.
If you come to Scarborough you will see that the Castle dominates the headland. It actually dates back to Norman times, and the history of the site back to a viking settlement.
How to .. (My kit and techniques)
I'll be doing some how to posts with more infomation on how to capture photographs like this.
Obviously you can take stunning photographs without all the equipment and editing, but the more equipment you have the knowledge to use can certainly help to create a stunning photograph.
