Vintage Photos - Oestreicher (1501-1504)

See the previous post in this series here.

I made some impulse buys after getting a new scanner and picked up a huge batch of slides a while back. These pictures span from as early as the late 1940s to as late as the early 1990s. These were from Goodwill and eBay (sometimes via estate sales). There are many thousands of these slides. I will be scanning some from time to time and posting them here for posterity.

This set continues a large batch of slides that originally came from an estate sale and appear to have belonged to a locally well known photographer from the Spokane Washington area named Leo Oestreicher, or perhaps a friend or family member of his. These slides contain some landscape and portrait photos but also a lot of typical snapshot photos. Here's an article on him from 1997 which is the only info I have found on him: http://www.spokesman.com/stories/1997/jan/04/photos-of-a-lifetime-museum-acquisition-of-leo/

None of the slides in this set were dated. The last one was simply labeled 'Lancaster's parakeet'.

The first a third shots show a parade or at least the preparations for one. The third photo shows a float labeled 'St. Petersburg' and 'The Sunshine City'. At least I think that's what the second part is. So based on this, I'm assuming these photos (at least of the parade and maybe all of them) were taken in St. Petersburg Florida which was nicknamed 'The Sunshine City' in 1910 and lives up to that name with its average of 361 days of sun a year and a Guinness World Record setting 768 days of sunshine in a row between 1967 and 1969. However, it would appear these photos were taken earlier than that record, I'm guessing sometime in the 1950s. It appears to be a Christmas parade.

It's not clear if the second photo was taken in the St. Petersburg area as well or not, however, it shows what looks to be a very poor part of town somewhere.

These slides were badly faded so I posted color restored and Digital ICE processed versions here.
