Old sentinel - Smederevo Fortress, Serbia [Black and White World]

Monumental walls on this photo are Smederevo Fortres in Serbia. This medieval fortress was capital of the Serbia in Middle Ages. It is often described as one of most striking monuments in whole Serbia. Fortress was heavily damaged in World War II by explosion of ammunition depot which devastated fortress and almost destroyed the town. Restoration of fortress is undergoing task for more than 15 years, but due to lack of funds, process is painfully slow.

Photo shows part of southeastern wall which suffered the greatest damage in explosion. Beautiful place, favorite walking and relaxing area, this fortress is one of those places you should put on your bucket list if you are visiting Serbia.
