Berlin Cathedral - this landmark is in the photos of almost all tourists who have visited the German capital. Firstly, the building of the cathedral is very beautiful and can not fail to impress travelers. Secondly, the largest Protestant church in Germany is located on the museum island of Berlin, which, of course, is visited by most of the city's guests.
According to the architects plan, the Berlin cathedral was to become the main church of all European Lutherans. Contrary to the Protestant teachings, the cathedral turned out to be very rich and bright.
The Baroque cathedral was built for 11 years - from 1894 to 1905 and was to serve as the court church of the ruling Hohenzollern dynasty. It is interesting that it was erected on the site of a neoclassical cathedral built on the project of Karl Schinkel. The fact is that the previous church did not like Emperor Wilhelm the second, he believed that she lacks majesty. Breaking - do not build! The church was demolished, and instead of it architects Otto and Julius Rashdorff built a new one. According to the plan, the cathedral was to become the main church of all European Lutherans. Contrary to the Protestant teachings, the Berlin cathedral turned out to be very rich and bright, more like a Catholic church.
However, unlike many Gothic churches, this cathedral does not leave a feeling of pressure on a person when you are inside a building. Here is a very bright and beautiful decoration, which I want to examine and remember in detail. Outside, the cathedral is decorated with sculptures, columns and stucco molding, and inside - stained-glass windows and paintings on biblical themes. The chair, on which sermons for parishioners are read, is decorated with carvings.
Under the dome of the cathedral there is an observation deck with a beautiful view of Berlin. It's worth two hundred and seventy steps to make interesting photographs.
Before World War II, the Berlin Cathedral was also famous for its height - 114 meters. However, during the military operations the church was badly damaged and required reconstruction. Now the height of the cathedral is 98 meters. The cathedral was opened after reconstruction only in 1993 and struck everyone with its beauty.
Particular attention should be paid to the body - it was created by one of the most famous German masters Wilhelm Sauer. In addition, inside the cathedral is the tomb of members of the Hohenzollern dynasty. That's why tourists should observe silence. In front of the church there is a park called "Lustgarten", which means "Desire Park" in Russian. In the center is a fountain, which is surrounded by beautiful lawns.
