We, @tabealouise and myself, had the pleasure to visit China for a three week trip. Over the next couple weeks we will publish many posts about the preparations before the trip, our experiences, learnt lessons and even some cool videos on dtube. Stay tuned.
Today I want to share the results of the amazing photo shoot with a cormorant fisherman in Xingpingzhen. On Wikipedia are good information on Cormorant Fishing. The fisherman used to fish in the shallow water of the Lijiang River. As you can imagine the job nowadays doesn't provide for an income which could feed yourself and your family. The fishing technique even goes back till 960 AD. To earn his income the fishermen offer their unique style and appearance to photographers from around the world to capture the fishermen in their traditional environment. So basically their job now is modeling π.
While we planned the trip I stumbled over a YouTube video by Nick Page that showed amazing images he shot in the Guilin area. He recommended a tour with the Guilin Photography Tour. Thank you so much Nick that you posted this video and that I found it π.
Right after I saw the video I wrote an email to Mia and Andy of Guilin Photography Tour. A couple days later everything was arranged and we couldn't wait to arrive in Guilin! If you ever visit Guilin, are into photography, want to make the most of the days regarding taking beautiful pictures, I would definitely recommend getting in contact with Mia and Andy.
I selected 5 black and white pictures I really liked. Most likely I post more pictures in the future of the fisherman and the area. Let me know what you thinkβ
All pictures were shot with a Sony A7 with the 24-70mm or 55mm Zeiss lens and edited in Lightroom.
If you are interested in further pictures go over to Guardian.com and check out the the work of Andy Beales.
Enjoy life, have fun and take more beautiful pictures!
Sebastian
