Acapulco Sunsets: Turning Pain into A Secret Weapon

When I was a kid I remember some of the older people in my life mentioning things like they’d know the weather was changing based off of how they felt. I thought that notion was honestly ridiculous other than actually physically feeling the weather as it changed by being out in it.

I’d ask people to explain why and they’d always relate it to some injury they got when they were young, generally a broken bone or something like that.

When I broke my jaw 7 years ago my doctor actually told me to expect pains like that. When I actually started experiencing them I was floored, although they finally made sense. From what I can tell those pains are generally related to air pressure as it changes with changing weather.

I remember getting in an argument with my Aunt as she planned a day of outdoor activities the last summer I was in contact with her. I told her it was going to rain and she checked the forecast telling me I was wrong. The level of pain I was in told me different and I told her so and she basically called me a liar.

3 hours later we were in the midst of a downpour, she was wrong. She looked angry and never admitted I was right, from my memory.

As I type I’ve had a bad unexplained headache for the last few days. Some sources of weather claimed that Acapulco wasn’t expecting rain but as I type this there’s lightning and thunder and intermittent rainfall starting.

I used to look at this like it was a problem mainly because it causes me pain and discomfort, which can be disorienting. The rainy season here is actually a tough time of year as the air pressure changes constantly with coming storms. I’ve been doing what I can to look at this sort of thing as a strength, as it’s a useful tool to have as a farmer. Knowing when rain is likely to come is extremely helpful to know.

So while the last several days have been a bit tough over head pain I’m thankful to have known that the storm brewing was on it’s way before hand.

What cons in life can you turn into pros?
